Why this matters
Skin rarely gets more than a few hours of teaching in an undergraduate degree. Yet skin cases walk into clinic every week — and these three conditions look alike, present together, and respond to very different approaches.
They look similar on the surface
Erythema, scale, pruritus — all three can present with overlapping features, especially when chronic.
They respond to different approaches
The dietary, environmental, and clinical levers that work for eczema will not work for psoriasis. Seb derm is different again.
Missing the distinction wastes months
Months of mismatched treatment, lost trust, and a patient who decides naturopathy doesn't work.

What we'll cover
Clinical, practical, and built for the realities of integrative practice. Every distinction comes with the evidence and the clinical reasoning beneath it.

Visual diagnosis — the at-a-glance read
Distribution, scale character, lesion border, nail and scalp involvement. What each tells you and what it rules out.

What each condition is really telling you
The drivers behind eczema, psoriasis, and seb derm — and why the same approach won't work for all three.

Case taking that actually narrows it down
The specific questions that separate the three — atopic triad, Köbner phenomenon, Malassezia flare patterns.
Who this is for
This is for you if
You're a naturopath, nutritionist, herbalist, integrative GP, or functional medicine practitioner
You see skin cases and want a clearer decision-making framework
You're new to practice and want to feel confident with skin in clinic
You're experienced and want to upskill specifically in skin
You'd rather identify the root cause than layer more topicals
You want to feel confident and clear about what you’re looking at.

Rebecca Hughes
Skin Whisperer and Practitioner Mentor
I'm a functional medicine practitioner and naturopath who has spent over a decade working exclusively in chronic skin conditions. I know these cases — the complexity, the overlap, the patients who've been through the system without answers. That depth of clinical focus is what I bring to everything I teach.
My mission is simple: to empower other pracitioners by sharing this experience, so together, we change the journey for our patients. Everything I create — the courses, the webinars, the mentoring — exists to build confidance and capability in the practitioners I work with.
