The third appointment
Your patient with eczema is sitting in front of you for the third time. They're ridiculously itchy. Scratching until they bleed. Not sleeping. Extremely emotional. And they're slapping everything on their skin that they possibly can find on the internet.
You've done the basics. You've looked at gut health. You've removed dairy and gluten. You've supported the barrier.
And still, nothing is shifting the way it should be.
IF YOU'RE EARLIER IN YOUR PRACTICE
"Skin cases feel complex in a way I didn't expect. I can see something systemic is going on, but I don't always know where to start, and I'm referring out more than I'd like."
If you've been in practice a while…
"I get good results with some skin patients, but others feel inconsistent. I've treated the gut, addressed the hormones, but without a complete framework, I'm still missing pieces of the picture."
Imagine knowing that you could look at a rash and confidently assess it, without doubt. And know exactly what will shift the needle therapeutically, without second-guessing yourself.
Imagine having a watertight treatment plan and feeling secure that you can confidently manage the expectations of your patient, even when they're flaring.
That's what a systematic clinical framework gives you. Not just confidence in the consulting room, but a clear way of thinking about every chronic skin condition, from first appointment to resolved case.
- Rebecca Hughes
One undergraduate degree can't possibly make you a specialist in all areas. This course fills the skin medicine gap directly — with structured, systematic depth.
Not aligned with any specific company or protocol. The framework is built from clinical evidence and decades of practice — not a product range.
You'll learn to create individualised treatment plans from someone with deep clinical experience across all age groups, not scripted protocols.
Why skin patients — and why now
Globally. In Australia, 16.4% of the population will experience it, with around 600,000 living with moderate to severe disease.
Worldwide. Australia's prevalence is among the highest globally at 2-3%, widely misunderstood and chronically undertreated.
Of Australian adults. Acne doesn't stop at adolescence - it persists and recurs into the 30s and 40s, driven by hormonal, metabolic, and microbiome factors that mainstream treatment rarely addresses.
But they rarely arrive with clean pathology and simple histories. They present with chronic, co-morbid conditions. Changes in skin architecture from years of treatment. Significant psychological distress and mental barriers, as well as high expectations.
Because when you get it right, the results are profound. Resolving a chronic skin condition changes the quality of someone's life in ways that very little else in clinical practice can match. It is some of the most rewarding and satisfying work you will do.
But if you are not prepared, if their anxiety levels spook you, or you reach the limits of your framework too quickly, it becomes intimidating for you and deeply frustrating for your patient.
What you'll leave with
Foundational Skin Medicine is designed to give you a fundamental framework that you can apply over and over again, not only with eczema, psoriasis, and acne, but with any skin condition or disease you encounter in practice.
You'll leave with the 5-Axis Root Cause Assessment Framework so you can map the dominant drivers of any skin case.
A systematic investigation pathway for each axis so you never have to guess which tests to order.
How to review and measure progress and know what to do next.
How to meet a distressed skin patient where they are, so their expectations are managed and they trust the process.
Confident in developing a clear treatment hierarchy in a multi-system presentation, even if you don't have a dermatology background.

The cost of piecing it together yourself
I have made the mistakes.
You will have the benefit of learning from those, and of shortcutting your way to genuine clinical confidence.
This will save you hours of frustration and research, inconsistent results, dissatisfied patients who are losing confidence or looking elsewhere for help.
YOUR EDUCATOR
Naturopath · Skin Medicine Specialist · Educator

Rebecca Hughes has spent thousands of hours working at the deep end of integrative skin medicine, the complex, persistent cases that don't respond to standard protocols, and the patients who've often been told there's nothing more that can be done. She treats patients in Australia and abroad.
Alongside her clinical work, she has mentored practitioners across Australia, lectured at Endeavour College, and developed a systematic, evidence-informed framework for skin medicine that draws on more than two decades of specialist clinical practice across all age groups.
Her vision is to alter the conversation about chronic skin disease, and in doing so alter the outcomes for people who are suffering. These patients deserve choice. To achieve that, she is committed to building a generation of practitioners who look at a chronic skin condition and ask the question: what is this trying to tell me?

Good questions
If you see patients with eczema, rosacea, acne, psoriasis, or any condition where the skin is a presenting complaint, yes. Skin is the most visible output of systemic dysfunction. This framework will change how you read those cases regardless of your specialty
The gut axis is one of five. If gut has been your primary lens, this course will show you the four axes you may be under-assessing — and why cases that don't respond to gut work often have an environmental or nervous system driver that was never addressed.
The framework is designed to be usable from the first year of practice. You don't need advanced clinical experience to apply it — you need a system. That's what this gives you.
10 modules delivered over 11 weeks with a mid-course integration break. Each session is 60 minutes of delivery plus 15 minutes of live Q&A.
Yes. Every session will be recorded and accessible through your student portal. You'll have access to all course content for 12 months. That window is intentional — so you actually get it done. You're welcome.
Yes. Foundational Skin Medicine will run live again in 2027. Pricing for the next cohort will be confirmed closer to that time.
This is a foundational course and the prerequisite for any further skin education I offer. The principles are robust enough to apply across presentations beyond the three conditions covered — you'll leave with a framework, not just a condition list.
Yes. I'll work through my own clinical cases and make those available. The Q&A at the end of each module also gives participants time to bring their own cases to the group.
Not as part of this course. Once you've completed Foundational Skin Medicine, you'll be eligible to join group mentoring — that's the next step.
For Australian practitioners, this course should qualify as a deductible CPD expense. Please confirm with your accountant. Enrolling before 30 June 2026 allows you to claim in this financial year.
The surface doesn't tell the whole story
They've been told their eczema is managed, not cured. Their acne is hormonal, here's the pill. Their psoriasis is chronic, here's the cream. They've been underserved by an approach that treats the surface, not the source.
You already know there's more to find beneath the skin. This course gives you the framework, the depth, and the confidence to go and find it.
